Latest IPCC report confirms global warming—and human influence

AUG 20, 2013
Physics Today

New York Times : Earth is warming, and humans are largely responsible, according to a draft of the Fifth Assessment Report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The draft, however, still faces an intensive, closed-door negotiating session in Stockholm next month. Composed of hundreds of scientists, the IPCC is an internationally accepted authority on climate change. In 2007 it shared the Nobel Peace Prize with Al Gore. The current report reiterates that temperatures and sea levels are rising, perhaps by as much as 5 °F and 1 meter, respectively, by the end of the century. However, the scientists are much more confident than in their previous report that humans are the primary influence on planetary warming.
