THE Governing Board of the American Institute of Physics has approved the establishment of an international prize for service to the profession of physics in the belief that such an award will contribute to good will and closer relations among physicists of all nations. Because the work of the late Prof. Tate is typical of the kind of accomplishment that will be recognized, the award will be known as the John T. Tate Memorial Prize.
