Japan’s new prime minister supports nuclear power

JAN 02, 2013
Physics Today
New York Times : Within a week of taking office, Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe has announced that he will support the building of new nuclear reactors. Public opposition to nuclear power has been especially strong in Japan since the Fukushima Daiichi disaster in March 2011, which resulted in most of Japan’s nuclear reactors being shut down. Abe, however, appears to believe that nuclear power is necessary to promote economic growth and that Japan’s silent majority will back him up, writes Hiroko Tabuchi for the New York Times.
