Japanese government pushes to reopen nuclear reactors

New York Times : Despite its troubled nuclear past, Japan may soon restart the undamaged reactors it was forced to close following the March 2011 Fukushima nuclear disaster. To ease the country’s crippling energy crunch, the government of Shinzo Abe is pushing for adoption of its Basic Energy Plan, which includes reopening closed reactors and also building new ones. Although admitting the plan represents a reversal in national policy, Japan’s minister for trade and industry, Toshimitsu Motegi, says it will buy time to work on alternative energy sources, such as solar, wind, and geothermal.
