Ireland releases new strategy for scientific R&D

Science : Yesterday the Irish government released Innovation 2020 , its long-term strategy for research and development, science, and technology. The plan sets several goals, including doubling private investment in public R&D to €48 million ($53 million) per year, increasing the number of research personnel working in business to 40 000, and encouraging more enrollments in master’s and PhD degree programs in disciplines aligned to enterprise. The strategy is being welcomed by various groups, including the Irish business council Ibec and the Irish Universities Association.
