Iran agrees to interim arrangement on nuclear program

JAN 13, 2014
Physics Today

Washington Post : The United Nations Security Council has reached a temporary agreement with Iran regarding the country’s nuclear program. Iran will cap its uranium enrichment effort, among other concessions, in return for some easing of the economic sanctions that have been imposed on the country. Although the five permanent members of the Security Council—the US, China, France, Russia, and the UK—along with Germany have been trying for years to reach an agreement with Iran, no breakthrough had been achieved until recently, when Iran elected a new president, Hassan Rouhani. However, efforts by the US Congress to impose additional economic sanctions against Iran may jeopardize the final agreement.
