Physics Today

The AIP executive committee has named Ralph A. Sawyer acting director of the institute. Sawyer, who is chairman of AIP’s governing board, will be in charge of the organization’s administrative affairs until a successor to the late Van Zandt Williams can be appointed. Sawyer will also serve as acting director of the AIP education and manpower division until 1 Sept. when Arnold A. Strassenburg will become the division head (see below). Meanwhile, a committee headed by R. Bruce Lindsay has been formed to seek a new director. The committee welcomes suggestions from the physics community as to possible candidates for the post.
