H‐Bomb Talk Restricted

AEC clamps down

The AEC, short news notices announced recently, rescinded the wording of an order directing its scientists not to discuss even the unclassified “technical aspects” of the H‐Bomb since it might imply AEC sanction. But the order itself apparently remained. At about the same time some 3000 copies of the early run of the April Scientific American were destroyed to remove ostensibly unclassified statements in an article on the H‐Bomb by Hans A. Bethe. Deleted from the article were certain statements which Gerard Piel, the editor, said included information which had been previously published.
