SciDev.Net: A global climate services system is being readied to launch in October by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). The Global Framework for Climate Services, which is designed to provide early warning of potentially dangerous weather conditions, is targeted primarily at underdeveloped and developing countries, many of which are in climatically vulnerable areas and lack the necessary infrastructure to cope with severe droughts, floods, hurricanes, and other natural disasters. The WMO and its partners are currently working on an implementation plan and governance structure, which is open for review through mid-July.
The finding that the Saturnian moon may host layers of icy slush instead of a global ocean could change how planetary scientists think about other icy moons as well.
