Fukushima cleanup crew were asked to mask their radiation exposure

JUL 23, 2012
Physics Today
BBC : In the wake of the Fukushima disaster , it has come to light that radiation cleanup crew members were asked to shield their monitors with lead to hide the amount of radiation to which they were being exposed. The finding is the latest in the investigation into what went wrong at the Daiichi power plant after the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami struck on 11 March 2011. Apparently, an executive with Build-Up, a subcontractor for the Tokyo Electric Power Co, made the request so the workers could continue the cleanup despite the high levels of radiation in the area. Build-Up president Takashi Wada reported that nine workers complied.
