Fuel-cell vehicles may hit the road by next year

JAN 07, 2014
Physics Today

Ars Technica : Fuel-cell vehicles (FCVs) have been in development for decades, but until now, their size, weight, and cost have posed problems. In addition, the volatility of the hydrogen used to fuel such vehicles has caused concern. Now, however, due to reductions in the cost of automobile fuel cells and improvements in the vehicles’ driving range and refueling time, the first FCVs that you can buy, not just lease, may appear on the road as early as next year. At this week’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Toyota introduced its own version of an FCV and announced plans for the installation of fuel-cell recharging stations across California.
