Four-finned robot swims like a cuttlefish

JAN 13, 2015
Physics Today

Daily Mail : To better study marine life in the wild, a group of students at ETH Zürich has built a nautical robot that uses fins to propel itself through water. Modeled on the cuttlefish (genus Sepia), Sepios consists of four undulating fins spaced equally around a central cylinder that contains the electronics. Less noisy than a propeller-driven device, Sepios can move in any direction and is less likely to become entangled in weeds and sea grass. Its creators say such a device could be used for underwater exploration and photography.
