February 2016 sets record as most unusually warm month

Mashable : The global average surface temperature last month was 1.35 °C above the average February temperature from 1951 to 1980, according to preliminary NASA data released Saturday. That sets a record for the highest departure from average for any month, beating out the mark set just one month earlier. NASA satellites also detected record amounts of atmospheric heat. Scientists attribute the temperature surge to the combination of global warming and a record El Niño in the Pacific Ocean. The previous warmest February occurred in 1998, which was also an El Niño year, yet last month’s temperatures eclipsed that record by 0.846 °C.
