Einstein’s special relativity paper arrives at Annalen der Physik

JUN 30, 2015
Physics Today

On this day in 1905 Albert Einstein’s paper “Zur Elektrodynamik bewegter Körper” (On the Electrodynamics of Moving Bodies) arrived at the editorial offices of the journal Annalen der Physik. Three months later, the paper that introduced special relativity to the world was published. The appearance of the word “electrodynamics” in the title is significant. Einstein developed a consistent physical framework that reconciled James Clerk Maxwell’s theory of electromagnetism with speeds approaching that of light itself.
