Earthquake prediction has become a major focus of geophysics in the People’s Republic of China. Bruce A. Bolt (University of California, Berkeley), reporting on his recent visit as a guest lecturer of the Academia Sinica, observed the revival of geophysical research that has taken place since the Cultural Revolution and its possible contribution to the world research effort in seismology.
