FEB 01, 1968

DOI: 10.1063/1.3034763

A new kind of particle accelerator uses the self field of an electron ring to trap protons (or other positive ions) and then accelerates the entire collection of particles. Physicists at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna, USSR, starting with 1.5‐MeV elećtrons, are planning to accelerate protons as energetic as 1 GeV.
