Directory of Academic Physicists

MAY 01, 1960
Physics Today

FOR some years, under the chairmanship of Prof. Ralph P. Winch, the Membership Committee of the American Association of Physics Teachers has been gathering names and preparing a “Directory of Teaching Physicists in Colleges and Universities” for use of the committee members and institutional representatives. It was agreed last fall that, since these names would be very useful in up‐dating and improving the coverage of the Physics Section of the National Register of Scientific and Technical Personnel, which is maintained by the American Institute of Physics under the sponsorship of the National Science Foundation, it would be proper to collect the names of academic physicists under the Register project. By this means, it was possible also to reach more colleges and to put in greater effort to obtain nearly 100% response. The names listed are those provided by the heads or chairmen of the physics departments and do not necessarily include physicists who are in administrative positions or who are in other departments.
