Curiosity Mars rover images two asteroids

APR 28, 2014
Physics Today

Los Angeles Times : On 20 April NASA’s Curiosity rover captured the first image of asteroids seen from the surface of Mars. Ceres and Vesta are the largest and third-largest asteroids in the belt that runs from Mars to Jupiter. They, along with one of Mars’s two moons, Deimos, were imaged by the Mast Camera , one of Curiosity’s multiple camera systems. Besides studying Mars’s night sky and atmosphere, the Mastcam also takes color photos and high-definition video of the Martian terrain.
