AS in previous years, the Placement Service of the American Institute of Physics organized an employment register on the fourth floor of the Hotel New Yorker in late January during the annual joint meeting of the American Physical Society and the American Association of Physics Teachers. Hopeful employers turned out in force, but even conservative estimates suggest that the available job openings outnumbered the available physicists by five to one.
