Chinese Academy of Sciences to focus more on applied science

FEB 02, 2011
Physics Today
Nature : Innovation 2020 is the name of the Chinese Academy of Sciences’s new blueprint for future research. Released last week during the CAS annual meeting, the document outlines an increased emphasis on applied science. Nature‘s Jane Qiu reports that CAS will also embark on new projects in seven areas, including nuclear fusion, stem cells, and regenerative medicine. Another key element of Innovation 2020 is the establishment of three new science parks—in Beijing, Shanghai, and the southern province of Guangdong—to speed the translation of basic research into products.
