Canadian science policies draw new round of protests

SEP 17, 2013
Physics Today

Guardian : Scientists in 16 Canadian cities held protests on 16 September in response to the expansion of government policies that ban them from talking to the media and from publishing papers on a variety of research topics. This is the second round of protests by Canadian scientists in the last year. The government has also attempted to institute other major changes, including repurposing the National Research Council and defunding several research institutes. Because of protests, some of that funding was restored. Researchers are also accusing the government of burying some government research results, particularly those related to climate change.
