Brookhaven’s Emperors survey nuclear realm

NOV 01, 1970

At Brookhaven a pair of Emperors is now producing 30‐MeV protons with an energy resolution of better than 2 keV. The two High Voltage Engineering Corp. Model MP tandem Van de Graaff accelerators can be operated separately to produce 20 MeV or jointly to produce 30. The pair has already yielded 3 microamps at 30.5 MeV. Elsewhere, six other MP’s are operating, but Brookhaven is the only lab with two such accelerators in line and the only one with an internal ion source in the first Van de Graaff, which is used for the 30‐MeV mode.
