Breakthrough Prize in Mathematics announced

New York Times : A new monetary award in the amount of $3 million has been established in the field of mathematics by Russian entrepreneur Yuri Milner. This is the third major award he has funded: In 2012 he inaugurated the Fundamental Physics Prize , and earlier this year he helped found the Breakthrough Prize in Life Sciences . To date, 12 people have been awarded the physics prize, including this year’s recipients, string theorists John Schwarz of Caltech and Michael Green of Cambridge University, and 17 have received the life sciences prize. Milner and cosponsor Mark Zuckerberg will work with experts to name the inaugural recipients of the Breakthrough Prize in Mathematics in 2014.
