Physics Today

On this day in 1977, Apple Computer Inc. began shipping its Apple II computer. For $1,298 you could buy a computer with 4 KB of RAM, a keyboard, and a power supply. A video-out connector enabled a TV to serve as the monitor. Apple introduced a floppy-disk drive the following year. The Apple II series established Apple as the pioneer and leader of personal computing.
