The CERN Super Proton Synchrotron reached its design energy of 400 GeV on 17 June. Testing began with extraction of a 100‐GeV beam on 5 April. One month later, on 3 May, the beam was injected and moved around the circumference without being accelerated. On 26 May, protons were accelerated to 80 GeV, and on 4 June to 200 GeV.
