An electronic isobar plotter

An electronic isobar plotter was placed in operation last month at the Weather Bureau’s Numerical Weather Prediction Unit in Suitland, Md., as the latest step in the Bureau’s efforts to achieve automatic collection, analysis, and forecasting of weather information. Data from Northern Hemisphere observation stations is received continuously by the Bureau and fed into an electronic computing system designed to provide prompt analysis in the form of numerical results recorded on magnetic tape. Information contained on the tape is electronically interpreted by the plotting machine, which then automatically draws the appropriate isobaric lines on weather maps.
