Richard von Mises

Richard von Mises, recently retired Gordon McKay Professor of Aerodynamics and Applied Mathematics, emeritus, at Harvard University, died on July 14 at the age of seventy. The author, with Gustav Kuerti and William Prager, of Theory of Flight, Dr. von Mises made contributions to the knowledge of elasticity and the theory of probability and statistics. He had taught at Harvard since his arrival in this country in 1939. He was a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Institute of the Aeronautical Sciences, and of the Institute of Mathematical Statistics.
