John G. Kirkwood, a physical chemist and chairman of the Department of Chemistry at Yale University, died of cancer on August 9 at Grace‐New Haven Community Hospital. He was 52 years of age. Bom in Gotebo, Okla., Dr. Kirkwood graduated from the University of Chicago and received his PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1929.
