This is a notice of the death of Harden M. McConnell, whose work in Chemistry and Physics has had wide impact.

Harden’s former student and colleague, Prof. Alvin Kwiram described Harden’s death as “The library has burned down”, which accurately reflects the feelings of many of his former students, postdocs, and collaborators.
