Dr. J. C. Stearns, dean of faculties at Washington University, and one of the scientists who helped produce the atomic bomb, died on June 11, 1948, at the age of 54. He was president of Sigma Pi Sigma from 1941 to 1946 and was the author of a number of papers on cosmic ray phenomena.
