Fluctuations in solids

The major purpose of scientific conferences is to allow scientists to meet, exchange latest results, and discuss mutual problems. Unfortunately, the large attendance at most meetings forces a formal organization that to a large extent reduces these benefits. When the subject matter is sufficiently narrow and attendance is limited to scientists working in the area under discussion, the atmosphere becomes far more conducive to informal discussion and the fruitful exchange of ideas.
